Kogi is a state in the central region of Nigeria. It is popularly called the Confluence State because of the confluence of River Niger and River Benue at its capital, Lokoja, which is the first administrative capital of modern-day Nigeria. There are many local government area in Kogi state. We would be talking about a small village called Eganyi in Kogi state with amazing resources. This community belong to the Ebira ethnic group. There are other ethnic group such as Igala and Okun. Unlike every other part of Nigeria, Kogi state is not well developed. There are scattered vegetation everywhere, The land is surrounded with gray mountains which at times of the year turn deep black. Agriculture is the main economy of the town, During their cultivation season, the land usually give rise to high yield of some crops like cassava, yam, rice, coffee, cocoa, palm oil, cashews, groundnuts, maize, melon and others which make most of the occupants farmers and traders.
The yield of such crops may be due to the release of useful substances from those mountains. Most of the indigens engage in trading of these products which usually involved transporting them to other parts of the country where their needs is high. Fishing is also carried out in areas such as Lokoja,Idah and Baji where there are large body of waters. I particularly became interested with the sight of this mountains which appears grayish in colour at certain times of the year, and turns completely black at other times of the year when I travelled there. Beside the color of this mountains there is evolution of white cloud which surrounds this mountains and even extend to living quarters. Sometimes the cloud abode on top of the mountains creating a dome just as the one seen below!
The state is richly blessed with minerals such as coal, petroleum and steel and other industrial products which make steel industry and cement industry to be located in the outskirt of the town. The colourless gases which normally erupt from the mountains, sometimes take a lot of time usually from morning hours to evening hours. The weather is sometimes influence by the mountains as everywhere feel hotter during dry seasons. Some creatures are also spotted in the mountains such as monkeys, baboons etc. Kogi state attract tourist especially the confluence of river Niger and Benue, the colonial ancient settlement (Lord Frederick Lugard House), some igneous mountains in the state and some festival shows! The name Nigeria was coin by Flora Shaw the future wife of Baron Lugard while she was gazing at the confluence of river Niger and Benue in Kogi State.
