🧪 E-Note on Matter

Subject: Basic Science
Class: Primary Five

🔹 Meaning of Matter

Matter is anything that has mass and occupies space.
This means everything around us — the chair you sit on, the water you drink, and the air you breathe — is matter because they all have weight and take up space.

Examples of matter: Book, Water, Air, Stone, Food, Bag, Table.

🔹 States of Matter

There are three main states of matter:

  1. Solid

    • Has a fixed shape and size.

    • You can hold it.

    • Examples: Stone, Book, Chair, Ice, Pencil.

  2. Liquid

    • Has a fixed size (volume) but no fixed shape.

    • It takes the shape of the container.

    • Examples: Water, Oil, Milk, Juice.

  3. Gas

    • Has no fixed shape and no fixed size.

    • It spreads everywhere and can be felt but not always seen.

    • Examples: Air, Oxygen, Cooking Gas, Steam.
