Meaning of Living and Non-living Things

Living things are things that have life. They can grow, breathe, feed, and reproduce.
Examples include: humans, animals, plants.

Non-living things are things that do not have life. They cannot grow, breathe, or reproduce.
Examples include: stone, chair, table, book, water.

Characteristics of Living Things

Living things have special features that show they are alive. These include:

1. Growth: Living things increase in size as they grow.
2. Breathing (Respiration):Living things breathe in air to stay alive.
3. Movement:Living things can move by themselves.
4. Feeding:Living things need food to get energy.
5. Reproduction:Living things can produce young ones.
6. Response to Stimulus: Living things respond to changes around them, such as light and sound.

Characteristics of Non-living Things

Non-living things do not have life. Their characteristics include:

1. They do not grow.
2. They do not breathe.
3. They do not feed.
4. They do not reproduce.
5. They cannot move by themselves.
